Folldal Gruver – a historical mining community in the mountainous heart of Norway

Folldal Mines is one of 15 works included in the Directorate for Cultural Heritage’s national programme for industrial heritage. It consists of 70 buildings, slag heaps and tips. Today, it is a vibrant museum with exhibitions, way-marked trails, café, accommodation and the main attraction - the mine.

2020: Special info due to the Corona crisis

At Folldal Gruver, we are looking forward to opening for the summer season on June 15th. We follow recommendations given by the health authorities. This will affect our services in the following ways:

The capacity for accommodation will be reduced. There will only be three rooms available in «Rallarstua»
and two in «Direksjonen».

Train rides in the mine: Only people from the same household can share a cart in numbers
exceeding 2.

The café will have a limited number of tables to ensure sufficient space between seats.

Disinfectants will be readily available, making it easy to maintain good hand hygiene
throughout the visit.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these precautions,
and wish you a warm welcome!

See & do

Folldal Mines offers range of exiting activities for young and old alike. Join a guided train ride in the old mine, get to know the history in the museum, or explore the characteristic landscape that testifies to more than 200 years of mining.

Eat

At the Gruvekroa café, a menu of traditional dishes dominated by regional produce and flavours are served, alongside a small selection of sandwhices, cakes, pastries and hot and cold beverages.

Sleep

Try the family-friendly hostel-standard at Rallarstua, or opt for the old style charm of the Director’s residence.

The buildings are situated nearby the attractions of the mine. Great hiking or cross country skiing trails are found nearby, and the village center is within walking distance.
